Decided to take a long walk this evening. I have just seen the road to the school and the shopping streets. So I walked to left instead of right outside of our front door and I found the Oxford Canal just 100 meters from our home. 

We live just behind this houses.

I have just survived the hardest situation since I arrived here in England. I have just called to book tickets to Phantom of the opera in London on Saturday. That was a real pain in the ass. The women at the phone spoke with a speed that I thought was impossible to reach and she linked every word together all the time. I'm still sweating...

But, finally, now there are two tickets booked for us to the musical. I'm really looking forward to it, especially because Peter Jöback is playing the Phantom!

Tuesday in Oxford

School all day and also some homework to do. I'm trying to be a good student. At least better than some of the others who seems to be here more for the party than the studies...

I'm staying home tonight to do my homework instead of joining the other to some birthday party. It may be boring but it actually feels really nice with a empty house, my book and some chocolate cookies. I've recorded my speech that I wrote last week and now I'm trying to remember the vocabulary that we have in the test on Thursday. 

Today my teacher told me that she want me to move up to advanced level for next week in both general english and speaking/listening. Yesterday I moved up to advanced level in grammar/writing and it feels okay so I hope it will be good to be in the advanced class in the other parts as well.

We are sitting outside in our back yard and listen to music, apparently the old song "Lemon tree"by Fool's garden works in almost every country. We are from Turkey, Belgium, Russia, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Sweden and we all familiar with that song and everybody knew the lyrics so we were having a small choir out here.

Superman in Oxford

Yesterday we went to a pub to watch the match between Spain and France. I was really tired and not in  mood to be in a pub but I decided to join anyway. The weather was really bad but we had our umbrellas with us and we put them in the entrance while we were inside the pub. About one hour later I was really tired and decided to go home. When I was leaving my umbrella was gone. I looked for it but I couldn't find it so I went home without it. Close to the pub on my way home I saw superman walking with my umbrella in the street.

The guy was having a bachelor party so that was the reason why he was dressed as superman. He also said he was sorry for stealing my umbrella and he gave it back to me when I asked for it.

So I walked home with my found umbrella and I took a bath and watched two episodes of Gossip Girl before I fell asleep at 11 pm. Today I woke up at 12.30 pm, 13.5 hours later. I think I really needed that sleep. It has been a really intensive first week here in Oxford.

Unfortunately we couldn't go inside because of some concert. We will try another day. At least we took some pictures outside.

Instead we went to the oldest museum in the country, Ashmolean museum. I don't like museum, I'm too impatient to staring at old things. But I took a picture of a mummy as a evidence of being there.

Good night

Chinese food together with Yasmina, Olya, Albina and Michael at Sojo. Cocktails and tequila (the closest to nubbe I had this midsummer eve) and some dancing at Whoopa.

The others are still out dancing but my feet were hurting so I went home and had a shower and skyped with my Karl, who by the way are celebrating midsummer eve in the biggest most luxurious house I've ever seen.

Now I'll go to sleep cause tomorrow I need to be alert when visiting the Christ church collage, were many of the scenes is the Harry Potter films are shot...

I 'ate you

There is a french guy here, Michael, who is hilarious. Today during lunch we were teasing him because he don't pronounce the "h" in the beginning of words. Most of the time there are no problem to understand him but there is almost no difference between the words hungry and angry when he's pronouncing them.

- I'm really 'angry. I 'ate you. 

- What?! Are you hungry? Are you going to eat me?

Midsummer eve

Everybody at home are probably having midsummer dinner and having some beer and "nubbe" right now. But here in England it's just an ordinary Friday. There are no afternoon classes in Fridays so we were having lunch in a cafe as usual but continued with some shopping (surprise!) instead of going back to school.

Tonight we will have dinner at a chinese restaurant and maybe we will go to some pub or club after. Not that kind of midsummer I'm used to, but it will be great.

Switching

I want to switch from my american accent to british. Started my new accent two hours ago and it already sounds much better, especially after a few Pimm's...

BSC

School here is much better than I even could imagine. All the teachers are fantastic and in four days I can already feel an improvement. Writing and grammar is quite hard but I think there is a good change that when I'm leaving I will be really good in that parts as well.

Movie night

Today was almost the same as yesterday. Go to school, shopping, doing homework, cooking and eating with Albina and finally meet up with some other students for cinema. We were seeing man in black 3, really funny actually. I've never seen a men in black movie before...

The movie was shown in 3D which was making it even better.

Mr Holmes

We just skipped walking to the pub to watch the match and instead we where staying home and watching first episode in the first season of Sherlock Holmes. Albina have already seen all seasons and really recommended it and now I have to agree! Awesome.

Tuesday

Started the day with my first lesson in General English. The teacher, Anna, is really nice and friendly. We where also having a speaking lesson before lunch. We always have lunch at 13.10 and at that time I'm starving. After lunch we continued with grammar and writing where we discussed relative clauses.

The girls from my student house met me up when my class was ready (they're not having afternoon class) and we went shopping at Primark. I left the store with two pair of ballerina shoes, two tops, a bag, a dress and a jacket. All for 47 pounds. It's crazy.

Now I will cook some pasta for dinner and maybe take a walk to the pub watching the match but I guess it will be really crowded since England is playing...

Second night

Really long and intensive day. We where starting the day with a test and where placed in classes based in the result. I ended up in upper intermediate/lower advanced class and it feels good so far. The teachers are really nice and helpful. I've already learned that you can say that a student work like a horse (meaning working really hard) but if you want to say it in plural you can't use horses, in that case it has to be dogs. How strange!!

We had lunch at a restaurant but this evening we just cooked some pasta before we went to a pub for the match between Croatia and Spain. After the game we went to another bar. I went home early, I'm totally exhausted but my housemates are still out so I have the house for my own.

First Monday

First day in school. Was trying to sleep a bit longer but instead I took the chance to be first in the shower. Don't know but because we're four girls and only one boy living here it may be some waiting time for the showers in the morning. The house is really nice. Much better than I expected. Three bathrooms, one with shower, one with bath and one with just toilet. A nice kitchen and a livingroom and one private bedroom for each of us.

It's me, one girl from russia, one girl form bulgaria, one girl form turkey (who arrived to night so I have not meet her yet) and a boy from ukraine who lives here. We where down town last night for dinner and some drinks. We also met up some other students from school.

Today we need so be in school for 8.45 am to register and do some tests. The other day we will start at 9 am.

Till Morfar

Vi föds och vi dör. Livets start och slut.
Ingen kan leva för alltid även om man skulle önska.

Inatt somnade Morfar in. Gammal och trött efter ett långt lyckligt liv. Nu får han vila.

Men minnena kommer alltid att finnas hos mig och hos alla andra som saknar dig.

Sommarlovsmys

Pappa, Myran och jag stack iväg på en liten utflykt med bilen. Först tröttade vi ut Myran med hjälp av en tennisboll på Himmelstalundsfältet och sedan åkte vi på en liten sightseeing mot Kolmården och svängde in mot Getån. Där finns en djup ravin som vi klättrade (halkade) ner i och det var riktig fint där nere. En forsande bäck och massor av ormbunkar. Myran hittade två ekorrar som hon jagade upp i ett träd. Mycket underhållande att se hennes frustration över att inte kunna klättra i träd..

Födelsedagen

Hade en riktig toppendag igår. Min Karl fyller år på tisdag så vi körde ett gemensamt födelsedagskalas för våra familjer. Vi hade hyrt lokalen till vår bostadsrättsförening och det hela blev riktigt lyckat.

Extra lyckat blev det när min Karl fick syn på sin bästa kompis Johnny som numera pluggar i Karlstad så dom inte kan ses så ofta. Jag hade bjudit in honom och hans flickvän i smyg så min Karl fick en rejäl överraskning och blev nästan lite chockad när de dök upp. Stod och stirrade och sen blev han såklart jätteglad.

Min svärmor hade styrt upp en skitkul tipspromenad som vi gick. Den var inte som vanligt utan alla frågor handlade om tävlingar som skulle utföras och vem som vann. Jag och Elias mamma spöade skiten ut min Karl och hans bror när vi skulle transportera Ahlgrens bilar med hjälp av en spade från en hink till en annan. Det var det väl ingen som trodde. Ingen trodde heller att Elias skulle välja ett rosa paket framför ett grönt men alla trodde att jag kunde fler än två verser på Den Blomstertid nu kommer.

Slutsatsen är att det var det roligaste släktkalaset på länge! Jag fick såklart några presenter, en matberedare, bakgrejer och en sångbok och presentkort på kicka. Jättefina grejer allt ihop.

På kvällen fick vi hjälp att städa och sedan stack jag och min Karl hem till oss tillsammans med Johnny och Evin där alla bytte om till mjukiskläder och korkade upp vinet/ölen. Min Karl fick 25 sorters öl som födelsedagspresent av dem som killarna naturligtvis började provsmaka. Tanken var att vi skulle bytt om igen och gått ner på stan en sväng men det var ingen som var sugen så vi hängde kvar och snackade skit till klockan två istället.

Nu sover de andra men jag börjar bli frukostsugen..

Linköpings gymnasiestudenter har utspring idag. Nu åker de flak och pumpar musik och skriker som dårar här utanför. Prefekt dag för student. Sol men inte sådär äckligt varmt som vi hade 2007 när man höll på att smälta bort i studentmössan. Med det var roligt ändå. Känns som en evighet sedan, fast ändå inte...
